SMi’s telecommunications expertise for the construction of the new GR5 pipeline in Algeria
As part of the construction of the new GR5 pipeline for the Algerian oil and gas group Sonatrach, the general contractor, Cosider Canalisations, mandated SMi for its telecommunication expertise.
SMis telecommunications specialists are responsible for the realization of a SCADA remote monitoring and transmission system for the Reggane, Krechba and Hassi R’Mel portions of the new pipeline. This turn-key contract includes the following services: study, engineering, project management, equipment supply, delivery and installation in addition to the systems configuration and technical training for the operation and future network support for the end users’ employees.
In order to ensure the safety of the GR5 pipeline operation, the provided remote monitoring solution will be deployed on 41 sites. The project has several components, including; a SCADA monitoring system, a Carrier Ethernet data transmission system, a Fibre optics support, an IP telephony system, HF and VHF radio communication and a control center that will be projected on a wall of screens. Finally, to ensure the constant autonomous operation of the system, it will be powered by solar panels equipped with maintenance free accumulators (batteries) with a secure electrical switchboard.
SMis’ extensive experience in the deployment of remote monitoring systems for pipelines and with the support of its multidisciplinary telecommunication and automation teams based in Canada as well as in Algeria, SMi is able, once again, to support its clients in achieving their goals.
