The S.M. Group International Inc.’s survey team stands out once again with its 3D scans

As part of the St-Rémi tunnel rehabilitation, the City of Montréal mandated The S.M. Group International Inc.’s survey team of specialists to measure the tunnel ceiling repairs impact on traffic lanes vertical clearing space.

The St-Rémi tunnel is showing significant signs of deterioration and the City of Montréal decided to have repair work done, under the supervision of The S.M. Group International Inc.’s. Bridge and Structures team. As expected, the concrete repair work done on the tunnel reduced the available vertical clearing space of the traffic lanes. It is important to know the new precise vertical clearance measurements in anticipation of the installation of the new lighting system inside the tunnel.

In order to obtain the maximum amount of information on the geometry and celling repair, and in the least amount of time in order to limit as much as possible traffic lane closures, our survey team of experts decided to opt for a 3D scanner. This state-of-the-art equipment not only allows for optimal ceiling modeling with high-precision detail readings using 1000 points per second measuring capacity, it also provides the exact areas where concrete spot repairs were done, perfectly delineates repair areas, and indicates area by area the excess thickness where spot repairs were made in relation to the tunnel structure.

In order to obtain the maximum amount of information in the least amount of time in order to limit as much as possible traffic lane closures, our survey team of experts decided to opt for a 3D scanner.

These surveys create a real 3D image of the condition of the premises, which enabled our experts to calculate the vertical clearance at any given point and allowed the validation that the lighting model chosen by the designer has the proper specifications and respects the minimum vertical clearance for safe traffic circulation.
